When I was back in Malaysia, I tried out the GPS as much as I could (as I knew in New Zealand the maps were very limited and not able to use for turn by turn navigation).
I have only used integrated GPS method at all times and never use the external GPS receiver or Assisted GPS (A-GPS) with the help of a network connection to get faster lock on times.
Most times in Malaysia, using the old N82 software (v11), it took me on average about 2 minutes to get a lock on. But I live in a place with a lot of high rise apartments and highways above me.
However, once I got a satellite signal it remained there at all times and was able to try out the turn-by-turn navigation. The instructions given were very clear and precise though not every time it gave the right one because the map was slightly outdated. (Might have a new map when Maps version 2 is released crossing my fingers).

I have not used the beta version of Maps 2, I only intend to get it when the final version has been launched.
Now in New Zealand with the latest N82 software (v20) I can get a satellite signal in under 30 seconds most times. I mainly use the GPS signal to do geotagging on the pictures I take nowadays and upload them to my Flickr photostream (more on that next post).

Macro Part 2

As I promised you guys a better picture of the macro mode from the N82 well here it is. I took a picture from my favourite club football jersey in my room with the lights on, yes it did have a lot of noise distortion on the fabric but the logo did come out very nice and clear indeed. I will post another picture in the next post or soon of another macro shot that was under normal lighting conditions. That was very clear I can assure you of that :)
Til then catch you later, had a good blogging first day.

Why I love the camera? Sorry no comparison to my N70 because it broke down but rest assured all you N82 owners or LED flash cameraphone people can see the huge impact.
Apparently, it has the best cameraphone flash of all of its current competitors currently as proved in GsmArena's 5MegaPixel shootout. It got a 9/10, here's the link below:
http://www.gsmarena.com/grand_five_megapixel_shootout-review-206p3.php

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://xenonnokia.blogspot.com/2008/04/why-i-love-camera-part-2-night-time.html' title='Why I love the camera? This was even faster then a 5310 Music Xpress (tested with my mum's phone) and a 6300 (my brother's phone) and they are both 2 megapixels with not much camera settings to load.
I read reviews about its blowout performance both during day and night times. So I gave it a go back when I was in Malaysia during my summer holidays. It was pretty awesome. My N82 blog kicks off!!!!!!!!!!!!

Firstly, I got my Nokia N82 (herein after referred to as N82) in Malaysia 2 months ago (on 19th February 2008).
I didn't really expect to get the N82 to be honest, up until then I had a Nokia N70 which was bought 2 years ago.
I fully maxed out that N70, had a 2GB card, used it as my camera, videocam, music player and even the occassional gaming console.
The phone broke down on me and I was pretty sad at that time because I didn't think of changing my phone until next year (2009).
So in my hunt for my next phone, I narrowed down my choices wanted a decent snapper (3MegaPixels & up, preferably Xenon flash), WiFi (was the most important), Music Player (not so much got a 160GB Ipod Classic 3 months back from that date), a 3.5mm jack, bluetooth, Symbian/Windows based phone.
So I went to GsmArena's phone finder which narrowed down my choices to Nokia N95, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia E90, Nokia N82, HTC and maybe some others can't remember now.
I eliminated N95s as I am not a fan of slider form factor, E90 was too huge n HTC was Windows based which I am unfamilar with. I ended up looking at the N82, I read the reviews on GsmArena and I was blown away.

As I searched for more and more N82 reviews, I totally really fell in love with it, the xenon flash and GPS and screen rotation blew me away completely.

See my next post for another story (hope to post at least one daily if not I will post more to compensate :P), until then keep safe.
Post comments on what phone your using if you like

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://xenonnokia.blogspot.com/2008/04/first-post-ground-breaking.html' title='First post...................
